Nothing more stands in the way of skiing enjoyment for your whole family in snowy Obertauern  You are certain to be thrilled by the unbeatable snow conditions on around 100 kilometers of pistes, thanks to our alpine elevations and the hard work of Old Man Winter from the end of November until the beginning of May. Modern chairlifts and gondolas as well as high-tech equipment to perform the daily slope-grooming duties, all do their part to guarantee a flawless skiing experience for you.

So, the daytime wasn’t enough for you? Night-skiing on a brightly illuminated piste (Edelweiss lifts, from 7 to 10 p.m.) promises a whole new skiing and boarding sensation.

Or be the very first at the lifts and the first to slice down through the freshly groomed snow! For all of you “early birds”, every Wednesday 3 lifts begin running at 8:30 a.m.

Obertauern is both quiet & peaceful as well as a party hotspot: a gentle winter idyll just outside the bustling town center,  or a mecca of après-ski good times when you are in the midst of it all. Here, we understand how to separate the wishes of recreation seekers and family vacationers from those of party animals, and to cater appropriately to everybody’s needs and expectations. The infrastructure wants for nothing: In Obertauern, you will find a doctor, pharmacy, supermarket, ATMs, opticians, hair salons and stylists, taxis, sports- and fashion stores, restaurants and bars.

SKI passes

Obertauern offers several choices for single- and multi-day as well as weekly ski passes. In addition, the “Lungo” is a good tip for everyone who wants to visit one of the region’s other ski areas from time to time. In just a 20- to 30-minute drive, you will be able to reach Grosseck-Speiereck (Mauterndorf), Fanningberg family ski area (Weisspriach) as well as the border-straddling Aineck-Katschberg ski area (St. Margarethen). All ski areas are readily accessible from Obertauern with the free “Lungautakt” ski bus.

Save yourself unnecessary waits at the lift ticket windows, and enjoy the convenience of buying your ski passes at the reception desk here with us at  Hotel Das Kohlmayr****S. We will also be happy to provide you with timetables for the ski bus!

Skiing is far and away the number one sport in Obertauern, though all sports disciplines are more than welcome! Traditional sports meet the hippest, trendiest newcomers on the block. Freestyle, the Snowboard Longplay Park, snowkiting and snow volleyball are all words you hear on people’s lips. Add to those the classics under the winter sun, such as winter walks and snowshoeing, sledding, sleigh rides and “ice stock” – our snowy winters make practically everything possible!

If you want to climb the mountainsides without mechanized help, you might choose to outfit a pair of touring skis with skins. In fact, a number of beautiful touring destinations are located close to the ski area. You will also encounter fans of Nordic skiing briskly exploring the region’s 26 kilometers of trails, making all of their cross-country dreams come true.
